Synopsis

A film by Séverine Barde, adapted from Dorian Rossel’s play, based on Ingmar Bergman’s fictional autobiography.

In Laterna magica, the images of the theatrical staging and those of an imaginary house come together. They lend visual and emotional depth to the monologue of a man conjures his own legend.

Between real and fictional memories, this unsparing narrative becomes a psychoanalytic exposure. Bergman narrates himself, delving into the layers of childhood, the gaps, silences and impulses, to transform his thoughts into living material, laced with humor, pain and the desire for truth.

A powerful self-portrait, at the crossroads of theater and cinema, from the collection De la scène à l’écran (From Stage to Screen).
